The Big Island
My family loves Hawaii. It's probably our favorite place in the world. We love the weather, the people, the culture, the food...I could go on and on about all that we love about the islands. We have been lucky enough to go to Oahu, Kauai, and Maui several times. We had always thought about going to the Big Island, but there was something about it that made me think it was not as good as the other islands. Maybe it was that most people I knew went to the other three islands. Or maybe it was because I had an idea that Big Island was all volcanoes. Whatever it was, we just kept booking trips to the other three islands. Finally, we figured we wanted to go to a less busy island and also explore somewhere new. So, we planned our trip to the Big Island. After going and experiencing all this island has to offer, it is now our favorite island and we can't wait to go back, especially my kids.
The Big Island is the largest of the Hawaiian Islands. It's also the youngest. It's the island where you can see an active volcano, lay on black sand beaches, stand at the southernmost tip of the United States, and drive through cattle ranches all in the same day. It's so diverse and might have the most beautiful and varied scenery of any of the islands.
When planning a trip to the Big Island, I suggest getting this guidebook. Like I mentioned in my Kauai post, it's the guidebook I always buy before each trip to Hawaii to make sure I have the most up-to-date information and see all the best sites. But, if you aren't into all that reading, I hope I can give you all you need to plan your own trip to our favorite island.
